New Photos of Bearcat F8F-2 from Texas Aviation Hall of Fame | May 05, 2005

Take a look at the new pictures in our gallery taken by Will Auen at the Lone Star Flight Museum/Texas Aviation Hall of Fame in Galveston, TX. The Bearcat is an F8F-2. It was built in 1948, accepted by the Navy on 11 Nov., and delivered to NAS Alameda on 2 Dec. After assignment to a number of Navy bases in the U.S., it was placed in storage in 1953. LSFM obtained it from storage in Quantico in 1997. Rumor among the volunteers at LSFM is that it had been placed in a pylon and used as a wind generator for helicopter rotor testing. Since Butch Voris is in the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, the restoration was painted as his Bearcat.
